The MLS industry has no shortage of consultants and that’s a good thing. Governance, leadership development, customer support, compliance, policy… those are big, complex areas that deserve expertise. But here’s the thing: I don’t work in those spaces. My entire focus is one narrow, high-leverage area; the MLS product portfolio.
That’s it.
Not bylaws.
Not board retreats.
Not customer service scripts.
Just the systems, tools, and products that make up your MLS’s value engine and how well they actually deliver that value to your members.
The Product Blind Spot
MLSs are now technology platform providers, whether they realize it or not. They have dozens of products, multiple vendors, integrations, APIs, and constant platform evolution yet often no formal product management discipline behind the portfolio.
That’s the blind spot SYN/GENCE was built to fix. I’m not here to advise on organizational politics or structure.
I’m here to help MLSs see, measure, and optimize the return on their product investment through clarity, alignment, and product strategy.
Different Lens. Different Conversation.
Traditional consulting tends to start with the organization. Who’s on the board? How are decisions made? What’s the culture? I start with the portfolio. What are you offering? Who’s using it? How much are you spending, directly and indirectly? What’s actually driving value? How are decisions made to evolve the portfolio?
It’s not better or worse — just different.
The organizational lens looks inward.
The product lens looks outward — toward your customers, your market, and defining measurable outcomes.
The SYN/GENCE Focus
Every engagement I take starts with one premise: When you provide a product ecosystem with verifiable value, everything else gets easier. That clarity behind that value drives:
- Effective strategy
- Better vendor relationships
- Stronger customer adoption
- Better support interactions
- More impactful training
- Higher perceived value
It’s the foundation that every other MLS function — governance, support, communications — can build on.
Where I Fit (and Where I Don’t)
If you need to rewrite your bylaws, reimagine your org chart, revamp your support group, or run a leadership workshop, I’ll gladly refer you to people who specialize in that. They do great work.
But if you’re trying to figure out why:
- Product adoption is flat
- Customers are unaware of what the majority of your portfolio is for
- Your vendors seem to be steering your roadmap more than you are
That’s when we should talk.
The Bottom Line
SYN/GENCE isn’t a generalist consultancy. It’s a diagnostic and strategy partner built specifically for one mission:
To help MLS organizations evolve from managing vendor contracts to managing customer value derived from your portfolio.
Because in today’s MLS landscape, clarity on this issue isn’t a luxury, it’s become a competitive advantage and central to the health of the MLS. Contact me to talk about how I can get you there.
